There are many different types and styles of fence and the one you choose is very dependent on its purpose. You can opt of solid fencing, semi-solid or decorative. Our expert carpenter can walk you through all the options available and advise on the best materials to use.

Close boarded fencing (Closeboard fencing)

For maximum security, privacy and durability, the close boarded fence is the obvious choice. Referred to as Featheredge, Feather board and Fence boards, this fencing is created by fixing vertical, partially overlapping featheredge boards to horizontal rails (cant rails) which in turn are fixed to the fence posts. 


You can choose to finish the fence in a traditional straight top line or opt for a concave or convex design. This type of fencing is popular because it is secure, offers good privacy, is ideal for uneven landscapes and, if the right materials are used and installed correctly, can have a lifespan of 25 years.

Semi-solid and decorative fence panels

Semi solid panels can be divided into Venetian, Metro and Louvre style panels which have gaps between the slats to allow light and air through. Ideal for when you're making a decorative statement or are looking to create garden dividers or screens.


Another type of semi-solid fence panel design is the Hit & Miss. These are created by alternating wider planks between the front and the back of the panel so that the gaps between the panels are not quite so obvious. This has become an increasingly popular choice of fence panel.
